Transportation Assistance Program
Driving Independence,
Creating Opportunity
In St. Tammany Parish, there is no public transportation, making reliable transportation a necessity, not a convenience. Without a vehicle, young people can't get to work, school, medical appointments, or job interviews, leaving them without access to essential opportunities and services.
At One Way Love, we help at-risk youth work toward transportation independence by covering the cost of driving school, helping with vehicle repairs, and providing gas cards when resources allow. In a parish with no public transit, a driver's license and access to a vehicle can mean the difference between employment and financial insecurity.

Our Approach
Covering the Cost of Driving School
In Louisiana, young drivers must complete a certified driving school program to get their license—a $400–$500 expense that many at-risk youth can't afford.
We fully cover driving school tuition for eligible youth so they can:
-
Earn their driver's license, removing a major barrier to employment.
-
Gain access to stable jobs without relying on others for rides.
-
Build financial independence with the ability to support themselves.
Driving school tuition is one of our largest program expenses, but it's also one of the most life-changing investments we can make in a young person's future.
Helping Youth Get and Stay on the Road
Because a vehicle is essential for employment and daily life in our area, we help remove transportation barriers where we can:
🔧 Auto Repairs & Maintenance – When a young person has a vehicle but can't afford to keep it running, we help cover essential repairs to keep them safely on the road.
⛽ Gas Cards – We provide gas cards to help youth afford fuel for work, school, and essential appointments. Gas card assistance is provided as resources allow and is not intended to cover ongoing daily transportation costs.
🚗 Vehicle Donations (When Available) – From time to time, we receive donated vehicles from community members. When we do, we work to repair them and connect them with a young person in need. Vehicle availability is unpredictable and not something we're able to guarantee, but we make the most of every opportunity that comes our way.
Partnering with Driving Schools & Auto Shops
By working with local driving schools and mechanics, we ensure that youth receive state-required training and access to affordable vehicle repairs.
