The Ernest Manint Memorial Fund

Updated: Jun 9

Ernest was incredibly proud of his wife Rosemary's work. Together with her sister Sandra, Rosemary founded One Way Love, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting at-risk youth in St. Tammany Parish. Ernest loved their mission and had a special heart for children facing difficult circumstances—perhaps because he understood what it meant to carry wounds and fight battles that others couldn't see.

One Way Love works to end homelessness, hunger, and insecurity among teens and young adults, partnering with St. Tammany Parish Public Schools to provide critical support to over 150 students annually. From housing and food assistance to mentorship and education support, they create real opportunities for change in young lives.

The Ernest Manint Memorial Fund will continue his legacy of caring for those who need it most by supporting One Way Love's vital work with at-risk youth in St. Tammany Parish. Every donation will directly help provide:

  • Housing assistance for homeless teens and young adults

  • Food security and basic necessities

  • Educational support and mentorship programs

  • Pathways to stability and brighter futures for young people facing adversity

Your contribution, no matter the size, will help carry forward Ernest's legacy of compassion and service.

About Ernest

Ernest Manint was born and raised in New Orleans, a city that shaped his love for good food, music, and celebration. He was a man of many passions—the New Orleans Saints and LSU football, fishing and boating on the waters he loved, golf with friends, and dancing that could light up any room. Ernest was quick to laugh and had a gift for bringing joy to others, becoming the life of the party wherever he went.

After serving his country with pride, Ernest worked as a merchant marine, spending years offshore in the Gulf and navigating the Mississippi River. The water was in his soul, and he eventually settled in Slidell, Louisiana, where he raised his family with his beloved wife Rosemary.

Ernest was a complex man who loved deeply and fought his own battles. He carried wounds and struggled with unresolved trauma, but he was also a devoted provider who would help anyone with anything he could. He did the best he could with the emotional tools life had given him, always striving to be there for his family and community.

Ernest faced his final years with determination, battling Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, and Lewy Body dementia. Even as these diseases took their toll, those who knew him could still see glimpses of the man who danced, laughed, and cared so deeply for others.

He is survived by his loving wife Rosemary, his son Travis, his daughter April, and his two granddaughters, Madi and Abigail, who will carry forward his memory and the love he gave them.

A Message from the Family

"Dad was a complicated man who loved us fiercely. He could make anyone laugh, would give you the shirt off his back, and never met a stranger. He carried wounds that he struggled with his whole life, but he also brought so much joy—dancing at every wedding, cheering loud for the Saints, teaching us to love the water and good food and each other.

He was so proud of the work Mom and Aunt Sandra were doing with One Way Love, helping kids who were struggling and needed someone to believe in them. He understood what it meant to face difficult circumstances and how much it mattered to have people who cared.

This fund will help One Way Love continue reaching at-risk youth in our community—giving them the support, stability, and hope they need to build better futures. It's exactly the kind of work Dad believed in.

Thank you for seeing the whole man he was and for helping us honor his memory by supporting the young people who need it most."

— With love and gratitude,
